Donnie is currently working on a series ofanimated logo treatments for Ecko TV.1. WHY?“This piece was originally created forRockpilemagazine, which ran an editorial on Why? – an indie-rockband. They supplied me with a photo of the band and Ibuilt the imagery around it. It’s a great example of howsomeone’s music can motivate art. Why? is a band thatI’ve followed for years and the artwork reflects myinterpretation of their music.”2. DESIGN GRAPHICS“I created this piece forDesignGraphicsmagazine. The idea was to create a purelychaotic digital mess using imagery that would reflecttools used in design. Each of the images was drawn inIllustratorand the colouring and pixel effects wereimplemented inPhotoshop.”3. MF DOOM“This is a personal project of mine. MFDoom is one of my favourite underground hip-hop artistsand I’ve always been able to envision myself creatingimagery for someone like him. I guess the direction forthis image came from the music. MF Doom’s style ofrapping is very free flowing and organic, but his image isoften ominous and dark. The artwork was all drawn inIllustratorand coloured inPhotoshop.”4. INSPIRE“This image was created for an art show inWashington D.C. The show explored urban lifestyles andits effect on art. It depicts a friend of mine in his ‘b-boy’stance surrounded by elements of graffiti and street art.Half of the image was painted or drawn by hand and theother half was created inIllustratorandPhotoshop.”3412|April 2006ART121.exp Sec1:1224/2/06 12:48:27 pmEXPOSURE|To find out more about this section, please go towww.computerarts.co.uk/gallery/1PHIL WHEELERLOCATIONCadiz, SpainJOBIllustratorCONTACTwww.thorogood.netSOFTWAREIllustratorandPhotoshop,“I have a digital style that has a diverse rangeof retro influences,” says illustrator PhilWheeler. “I take a vector-based approach, withheavy use of paths, but work mainly inPhotoshopbecause I find pixels so much moreeditable and flexible. The competitiontheme was ‘NYC, home of the super-species’.”2.
