ATP 132 PART MODELING USING AUTODESK INVENTOR
Introduction
This course focuses mainly on 3D Part Modeling using AutoDesk Inventor. Generally Autodesk
Inventor is a Parametric Modeling tool. The latest release of AutoDesk Inventor is Autodesk Inventor
11.0 but in this course emphasis is given to the earlier package Autodesk Inventor 7.0 for beginners and
moreover the 3D Modeling concept in any version remains the same with addition of some commands in
the latest release. Here in this course the basics of 3D Part Modeling followed by examples are
explained.
About Part Modeling
In the latest release of Autodesk Inventor 11.0 there are a number of advanced modeling tools available
to carry out the Part Modeling as listed below

Extrude: (+E)
For complete information about the Extrude Command see the
“ATP 120 Extrude Inside and out”
Revolve:
Part Feature > Revolve
Revolve Command helps in creating a revolved feature using one or more sketched profiles about an
axis
A typical revolve dialogue box is shown below

This consists of 2 entities
Profile
Axis
Profile: This command helps in selecting the profile drawn in the graphics area.
Note: If the profile has a single area then by default it is selected while if it’s a multiple area you will
have to select the profile button and then choose the area to be revolved
If by mistake you have selected the wrong area then press CTRL and then click on the profile to remove
Generally 3 types of profile is possible
Single

Multiple
Nested
AXIS: This helps in selecting the axis of revolution. The axis may be a work axis, a construction
line. Etc
Similar to that of Extrude Operation, Revolve has 3 operations
1)
Join: adds the volume
2)
Cut: removes the volume
3)
Intersect: creates a new feature from shared volume
EXTEND: This helps in determining the angle of revolution. The values can be specified as Angle or
